IFSA & ASF partner to address aviation sustainability

Sustainability has been identified as a priority for the aviation industry by leaders in the space. The International Flight Services Association (IFSA) and the Aviation Sustainability Forum (ASF) as aligned stakeholders can bring the aviation sector together to collaborate and develop sector wide inflight solutions that can not only support the march of sustainability within aviation, but provide valuable insights and reputational benefit for both organizations, as well as for the industry at large.

IFSA and ASF have entered into a strategic partnership with ‎the intention of supporting the memberships of both associations, the aviation sector as a whole, and ‎the industry’s governing bodies in the development of Inflight Services sustainability solutions for adoption by the entire sector.‎

IFSA is a global non-profit trade association serving the needs and interests of airline and railway companies, caterers and suppliers who provide onboard services on regularly scheduled travel routes. Under the umbrella of APEX (Airline Passenger Experience Association) serving every major airline in the world, IFSA is dedicated to the advancement of the art and science of the multi-billion-dollar onboard service industry.

The ASF is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the sustainability and circularity of passenger Inflight Products and Services.  As a collective force, the ASF is committed to bringing together companies and organizations from across the inflight services supply chain to collaborate by sharing knowledge and data and commissioning research to develop sustainable solutions and standards that are supported by our governing bodies and adopted by the industry.

APEX/IFSA has a Board of Governors that consists of airline CEOs and Presidents that meet each year to consider key industry priorities placed forward by the APEX Board of Directors and the IFSA Board of Directors. The Board of Governors selected sustainability as one of two priorities for the associations to address. Given this is a primary objective , IFSA is delighted to announce the partnership with the ASF, enabling a direct contribution to these goals and the immediate benefit of demonstrating an increased level of industry collaboration. At the 2021 APEX/IFSA EXPO, the Board of Governors approved that APEX Official Airline Ratings™ Four Star and Five ‎Star airlines must make publicly and easily available to their customers their sustainability ‎initiatives in order to qualify for future APEX Four Star / Five Star awards.  In addition, each ‎airline shall make incremental improvements to their sustainability efforts each year ‎thereafter in an ongoing improvement commitment to sustainable aviation.‎

Jointly, IFSA and ASF will be in a position to bolster collaboration and accelerate progress towards a more circular and sustainable future within Inflight Services. Both parties look forward to supporting the industry with their common sustainability goals.
